Common and Uncommon Symptoms of Perimenopause

Perimenopause can bring a variety of physical and emotional symptoms, some commonly known
and others more unexpected.

While hot flushes, night sweats, irregular periods and mood changes are familiar challenges,
other unexpected symptoms such as skin itching, hair loss, electric shock sensations
(formication), palpitations and tinnitus can also appear.

Menopause (in most cases) is a natural phase of our reproductive life and ageing, but the way we
experience it is in our control. All women will enter menopause, however not everyone will
experience its symptoms. There are also long term consequences, which may arise later. The
challenges we may face in the perimenopause or afterwards is certainly within our control. By
staying informed, making thoughtful lifestyle choices, and seeking appropriate support, women
can actively manage their menopause experience.
