What is Family Medicine

Family Medicine is a practice based on preventive medicine to help patients know about their health before becoming ill and thus treat their diseases before having any long-term effects. It is a practice that encompasses the whole patient’s lifetime, from birth to death. Family Medicine is also a practice that is the core medical practice in a patient’s life. It deals with the patient’s most basic medical care and refers to other specialties for more specific care. It also converges all this care to one physician who has all the information in one place. The family physician is the one physician who can see the patient as a whole, looking at his/her family history, background, psychology, and medical history and thus giving the physician the ability to make a well-rounded decision.
